CRABTREE & EVELYN

Michael Twite Landscapes Design and Landscapes created an award winning cottage style garden on behalf of London based firm Crabtree & Evelyn. A scented garden with raised pool, wall fountain and greenhouse was created while using specialist techniques to make the scene look established or aged.

With only two weeks to build the garden, Michael Twite and his colleagues spent 14 hours a day recreating an established cottage-style garden.

The emphasis on scented plants reflected the fragrant nature of the Crabtree & Evelyn brand.

The garden appeared on BBC2's Gardeners World Chelsea review programme, after film crews eagerly captured Michael Twite Landscapes work on camera.

HAMPTON COURT PALACE FLOWER SHOW 1999

Award: RHS Silver-Gilt medal

Sponsors: Wine of Australia

Designer: Susanna Brown

A Silver medal was awarded to Michael Twite Landscapes Design and Landscapes for creating a garden for the Australian Wine Bureau.

A shack style building formed the main focus reached via a raised timber deck and large flat stones, both crossing the pools.  The garden also featured wood and stone carvings in rich colours reflecting Aboriginal art and there were areas for the public to sample Australian wines.

Lush, tropical planting complimented the theme.

The clients brief was for a contemporary garden focussing on a younger lifestyle.  The RHS judges felt the garden met this brief and awarded an RHS Gold medal.

The garden impressed judges with it's combination of water, decking and stone on a strong, asymmetric background, which was enhanced by contemporary planting using multi-stemmed river birch trees and grasses.

Sections of the concrete walls were painted red to add drama and draw the eye to certain areas of the garden.

The hardwood walkways and deck were accentuated by the red on the walls.

Award: RHS Gold Medal

This dramatic garden won an RHS Gold medal.  The three concrete frames surrounding the central sculpture provide structure and interesting shadows across the turf.

The floating central sculpture was designed and kindly lent by Michael Dan Archer.  Purple Iris and silver foliage Elaeagnus soften the large amount of hard surfaces within the garden.
